Skating again
October 7th, 2007
Last week I saw an movie clip of Adam Colton riding a longboard.
It got me so stoked i started riding again. I first went to the attic where i had to move a ton of junk to get to my old skate stuff. I finally found the little shoe box with spare parts. I needed that because the Mark Gonzales paris board i have is from when I was focused on streetskating. But i also had a really really old Jason Lee Cat in the Hat model from Blind skateboards.
I took that, put a pair of thunders underneath, mounted a couple of slimeballs i still had and hit the streets. I almost slammed straight away, but then i got the hang of it. I skated my lungs out, carving and sidewalk surfing. It was a blast.
Today it was nice nice weather again so when i went to the playground with my wife and daughter I decided to ride there. It was nice. My three year old daughter wanted to skate also, which made me feel very proud :-).
I love the feeling i get from the films of Adam Colton and the films on the Loaded site. I am sure i want a long board, just for cruising and sidewalk surfing.
I am doubting between the pin-tail, the dervish or the vanguard. What would you choose and why?
Update:
Wow, thanks for all the advice.
It seems the Dervish wins hands down for being a better all rounder…
I actually mailed Adam Squared and he hinted that the vanguard might be more comfy…
I will have to find a shop and try both.. If i fail to do so i will go for the dervish :)
Keep the advice coming.

Definantly get the Dervish, make sure to get the proper flex though!

Word to the Dervish! I have a Vanguard and LOVE IT!

I haven’t ridden the others but the Dervish is so much fun to ride.

Go for the dervish. The pin is more of a truck ride than a deck ride. I have the vanguard and it’s really nice, but after riding a dervish there’s no question. The dervish is just as maneuverable and more stable, plus it has a little more in the way of a nose and tail, big plus.

The Dervish is the best all around board with a great feel in the carve and some nose and tail. Hands down the dervish is the top dog in the Loaded line. I have every Loaded model and if i were to only have one….the dervish. the flex 1 is pretty stiff, so only get it if you are a big guy…

Being a proud owner of the Dervish I’ll agree with the lot who’s praising it to the skies. It’s a great cruiser, and with the drop-through truck mount it can hold its own in hills. As for a setup I’d go for the Paris 180mm’s, which I myself bought after riding my Randal 180mm setup and I haven’t looked back since. Wheel wise I could just tell you to go for the Gumballs, but I myself am not necessarily super-impressed and would, if your board budget covers it, go for the Abec11 BigZigs which will keep your board stuck to the road.
Good luck with your choice. The Pintail and Vanguard are by far categorized as bad or mediocre decks, so what ever you pick, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied.

I have the vangaurd and its an awesome board and its more affordable board. but the dervish is the most all around board. look at the stats on loaded. its the best. i wouldnt get the pintail because its very small and my friend has one. so i would choose the dervish or the vangaurd in a flex 1 or 2.
